Ramblin' Jack Elliot in Concert
Ramblin' Jack Elliott is a consummate performer and ageless hobo who sorta has a reputation for singing and playing the guitar. Winner of the National Medal of Arts (presented at a White House ceremony during a previous administration), he is coming to Ithaca for the first time in most people's memories.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott doesn't grace a stage, he rambles through it as though he's in a living room playing songs for some friends. Now a bit more than 70 years old, this original Brooklyn cowboy will likely tell as many stories as he sings songs. As his handle suggests, both story and song most often have something to do with traveling -- trucks, trains, and tall ships, or the many friends that he has met on the road. Ramblin' Jack has been a key player in the evolution of folk music. He was once best known as Woody Guthrie's young sidekick, but youngsters such as Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Arlo Guthrie in turn learned a thing or two from Jack. Don't miss this living legend!
Opening for Ramblin' Jack will be Phil Shapiro & Carrie Shore, local favorites who sing in the "new folk tradition."
